Stuckgowan Estate Development. Phase 1
Category A Listed Manor House, Loch Lomond

Conservation, renovation and estate development proposals for a prominent Victorian country house on the shores of Loch Lomond. The project explored carefully integrated alterations, including new entertainment terrace, internal remodelling and a discreet garage extension set into the sloping landscape.

Key challenges included the sensitivity of the Category A listed building, its highly visible National Park setting, and nearby SSSI constraints

Working within the constraints of a nationally important listed building required a sensitive balance between conservation and contemporary intervention. The proposals sought to enhance the relationship between the house, gardens and exceptional loch views while respecting the historic character and significance of the estate.

Internally, proposals included a reconfigured kitchen, cinema room, gym and upgraded family accommodation. A key intervention involved reopening a former window bay to create a new connection between the house and terrace, allowing the principal rooms to engage more directly with the loch and mountain views.

The project demonstrates how thoughtful contemporary design can enhance historic buildings while respecting their significance, setting and long-term future.
