Laurencekirk Eco House Contemporary Dwelling, Aberdeenshire.
Designed for retirement, this Scandinavian-inspired A++ home replaced a damp and deteriorating property with a bright, comfortable and highly energy-efficient dwelling overlooking the Cairngorms. The project required a robust planning case to justify the replacement. while the completed house became the first A++ energy-rated home the local Building Control Officer had encountered. Insulated concrete formwork (ICF), a ground source heat pump, heat recovery ventilation, triple glazing, underfloor heating and solar PV panels combine to deliver exceptional energy performance, while black zinc, larch cladding and render create a simple, understated composition rooted in the Aberdeenshire landscape
