granary Steading house, Midlothian
This planning level design represents a complete renovation of a dilapidated steading into a modern, social and environmentally efficient modern home. Our approach to this design was to use simple additions, flowing space and composition to accentuate the beauty of the original building.
Simple extensions, cost effective curtain wall glazing and carefully proportioned openings reinforce the relationship between the house and the local landscape. Large areas of glazing maximise natural daylight and frame views across the surrounding countryside while maintaining a sense of solidity, permanence and modern life.
The result is a contemporary rural home that balances architectural ambition with environmental responsibility, demonstrating how modern design can respond sensitively to landscape, place and heritage.
