Scotland's Home of the Year Finalist 2026. Victorian House Renovation & Extension Kilmacolm
Featured as a A finalist in BBC’s Scottish Home of the Year, this project transformed a compact Victorian semi-detached house into a spacious contemporary family home.
Judges description: "an absolute exemplar of a perfectly designed home".
The project demonstrates how careful design can unlock the full potential of an existing building while respecting its character and setting.
Working closely with design-conscious clients, we reimagined the existing property to maximise light, space and connection throughout the home. Despite a constrained site and modest footprint, the design creates a remarkable sense of openness and generosity, demonstrating how thoughtful architecture can make a house feel significantly larger than its dimensions suggest.
The architecture draws on subtle Japanese influences, including deep overhanging eaves, a restrained material palette and a folded roof form inspired by origami. Existing and new spaces are carefully interwoven to create a calm, cohesive home tailored to modern family life.
