A neglected B-listed lodge, coach house and walled garden were transformed into a luxury seven-bedroom retreat beneath Ben Lomond.
Set within the landscape of Loch Lomond, the project restores the character and presence of the historic buildings while creating a comfortable, contemporary place for family, guests and gatherings.
Set within a spectacular rural landscape, this project transforms a historic lodge and coach house into a contemporary seven-bedroom retreat through the careful integration of restored traditional fabric and restrained modern interventions.
The former coach house is reimagined as a self-contained one-bedroom studio and workshop overlooking the courtyard, while a discreet glazed link connects rooms within the main lodge. Together, the buildings define a sheltered courtyard that becomes the social heart of the estate, balancing privacy, gathering and connection with the landscape.

A number of significant technical challenges informed the design, including the presence of an ancient culvert beneath the site, the absence of mains drainage and utility infrastructure. The result is a carefully considered balance of conservation, craftsmanship and contemporary living.
