36 The Calls Design Competition Leeds
Situated on a prominent riverside site in the heart of Leeds, 36 The Calls represented one of the final opportunities to shape a significant piece of the city's historic waterfront.
AXN Architecture developed a competition proposal that sought to create a premium contemporary landmark whilst respecting the industrial character and grain of the surrounding conservation context. The design explored how new architecture could contribute positively to the skyline, reinforce the dynamic waterfront setting and create a memorable sociable arrival point within this important part of the city
A robust brick palette references Leeds' industrial heritage while large glazed elements introduce light, transparency and animation. The vertical tower element acts as a contemporary marker within the cityscape, helping establish a distinctive identity for the development both day and night.
The project explored the potential for a sustainable, high-density urban development capable of transforming one of the city's last remaining waterfront opportunity sites into a vibrant destination.
